Random Quote Generator
Draw random inspirational quotes from a hand-picked collection of 40 famous quotes in five categories. Filter by mood, save favorites, and copy any quote to share.
How it works
Pick a category and press New quote. The generator shuffles that category's pool of 8 famous quotes and shows one quote drawn uniformly at random — every quote has an equal chance, and the generator redraws if the same quote would come up twice in a row. Selecting All draws from the full pool of 40.
Worked example
Choose Motivational and press New quote: you might get Steve Jobs' “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Press New quote again for another quote, and press Save quote to keep one in Favorites.
Frequently asked questions
How does the random quote generator work?
Choose one of five categories — motivational, wisdom, humor, science, or life — and press New quote. The generator makes a uniform random draw from that category's pool of 8 famous quotes, or all 40 when All is selected, so every famous quote has an equal chance of appearing. Press it again whenever you want a fresh quote.
Is this random quote generator free to use?
Yes. The random quote generator is completely free with no account, no sign-up, and no limits — you can draw new inspirational quotes as often as you like. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you do is uploaded to a server, and the tool works the same on desktop, tablet, and mobile browsers.
How many quotes are included?
The collection contains 40 hand-picked famous quotes, 8 in each of the five categories: motivational, wisdom, humor, science, and life. They come from scientists such as Albert Einstein and Marie Curie, writers like Oscar Wilde and Mark Twain, and leaders including Winston Churchill and Maya Angelou, so there is a quote for almost every mood.
Can I save my favorite quotes?
Yes. Press Save quote on any quote and it is added to your Favorites list under the Favorites tab, with the live count shown right on the tab. Favorites are stored in your browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back. You can remove quotes one by one or clear the whole list at any time.
How do I copy a quote to share it?
Press the copy button on the quote card and the current quote is copied to your clipboard in the format “Quote text” — Author, ready to paste into a message, document, or social post. One click gives you the quote and its author together, so there is no manual retyping before sharing.
Can I use these famous quotes in a presentation or post?
Yes. All 40 quotes are short, widely published sayings from historical figures, and quoting them with the author's name — as the copy button does automatically — is standard practice for presentations, essays, and social media. For books, courses, or commercial products, check the attribution conventions of the original author or estate where required.
Will I see the same quote twice in a row?
Rarely. Each press of New quote draws uniformly at random, so a repeat across presses is always possible — that is what makes it random — but the generator reshuffles if a draw would return exactly the quote that is already on screen. Two presses in a row therefore almost always give you two different quotes.
Is the random quote generator available in other languages?
Yes. The interface is translated into English, Spanish, French, and German — switch languages from the header. The 40 quotes themselves stay in their original English wording, because famous quotes are normally shared in the language they were spoken, while category names, buttons, and favorites are shown in your chosen language.
